Saint Martin's University Athletics

Spangler served as the president of Saint Martin’s University for 24 years and was a member of the engineering faculty for 21 years. In 1986-87 the athletic department consisted of just two sports and under his direction Spangler helped Saint Martin’s grow its athletic department to 13 sports. In 1998-99 he led the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. An avid participant in the annual SMU athletics golf tournament he holds the distinction of making a hole-in-one.
