The driving force behind the idea of the Capital pavilion now known as the Marcus Pavilion it was a concept that became Fr. Meinrad Gaul’s ‘27 goal.  His vision was for creating a “new place” on campus for activities, sports, and community.  He helped to raise funds for the facility by having a fee system in place that was paid a quarter at a time.  Proceeds went to the building fund. Marcus Pavilion stills stands at the time of his introduction as home to the Saints’ basketball and volleyball teams. He attended Saint Martin’s College from 1925-1927 and later received a degree from St. Benedict’s College in Atchison, KS. In 1931, he joined the Novitiate for Saint Martin’s Abbey and took his first vows as a Benedictine monk in 1932. He was ordained a priest in 1936. For more than 45 years, he was the mainstay of Saint Martin’s College.
