While competing for Saint Martin’s College from 1949 to 1951, Peter Muir set five college records in track. While track was discontinued for a time in 1972, three of those records still stood into the 1990s. In 1951, he set the long jump record for the for the Evergreen Conference that remained unbroken for 20 years until the conference was disbanned. In 1952, he placed in both the long jump and hurdles as a participant in the Canadian Olymic Trials. Murie was also an outstanding football player and went on to play for six seasons for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He was inducted into Saint Martin's Hall of Fame in 1994.
