Saints Almost Complete Late Fourth Quarter Rally – Despite trailing by 12 points in the second half, the Saints rallied to tie the game late in the fourth quarter; however, Western Oregon held off SMU 72-66 to open up conference action. Makenna Schultz recorded a career-high 20 points and eight rebounds to fuel the second half comeback attempt that tied the score at 60-60. The Wolves clinched the victory at the free throw line, going seven for eight in the final minute.
Saints Put Together Complete Game In Road Victory – A career game from Saniah Simpson-Patu lifted Saint Martin's on the road over Concordia 74-65 for head coach
Christy Martin's first GNAC victory on Saturday. Simpson-Patu carried the Saints (5-4, 1-1) with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists while Johansson added 19 points and six boards as the Saints held off the Cavaliers' (5-3, 1-1) fourth quarter comeback attempt.
Johansson Remains Near The Top Of Conference Leaderboard – After a 15-point, 8-rebound performance against Western Oregon and the 19-poin, 4-rebound, 3-assist night against Concordia, Johansson continued her run on the GNAC Leaderboard. She ranks second in scoring (18.6), third in field goal percentage (54.2), fourth in minutes played (33.1), ninth in defensive rebounding (5.0), and eighth in rebounding (7.4).
Simpson-Patu Rises On Leaderboards After Big Weekend – One of the top freshman in the conference, Simpson-Patu rose up on the GNAC Leaderboard after two explosive games. She began the weekend with 16-points, seven rebounds and two assists, in 29 minutes against Western Oregon. Leading the Saints over Concordia, Simpson-Patu scored a career-high 23 points, along with six rebounds, four assists on 9-for-15 shooting. She now ranks seventh in scoring (14.2), tied for 13
th in rebounding (6.6), 14
th in defensive rebounding (4.3) and 17
th in offensive rebounding (2.2).
Schultz, A Scoring Weapon Off The Bench – Sophomore Makenna Schultz is finding her way coming off the bench after scoring a career-high 20 points against Western Oregon. She shot 8-for-13 from the field with two 3-pointers along with setting a career-high in rebounds with eight. Schultz is now third on the team in scoring at 9.9 ppg, which ranks 31
st in conference, along with 3.0 rpg and 2.0 apg.
Saints' Defense Locking Down On Opponents – Defense has proven to be one of the Saints' strengths this season, holding Western Oregon and Concordia to .342 and .328 percent respectively from the field last week. Both WOU and CU struggled to find space beyond the arc as well, going 5-for-19 and 5-for-20 respectively. In the five games the Saints' have held their opponents to under .350 percent from the field, SMU is 4-1. The Saints rank fourth in conference, holding their opponents to .368 percent overall.
Efficient Offense Powers Saint Martin's – Much like their defense, Saint Martin's has proven to be effective on the offensive end of the floor. After shooting a season-high .523 percent from the field (23-for-44) against Concordia, the Saints improved to .428 percent overall. Their .428 percent ranks fourth in the GNAC.

SMU Looks To Improve On Boards – Last week's road trip was day and night in the rebounding category, starting off with a season-high 47 rebounds against Western Oregon. In their following game, SMU was outrebounded 39-to-29, their second largest deficit of the season. With their game against Seattle Pacific, the Saints will look to recapture their performance against Western Oregon against a team who is second in the conference in rebounding margin (+9.3).
Seattle Pacific Preview – Despite falling from No. 13 in the nation to receiving votes, Seattle Pacific is one of the more talented teams in the GNAC. The 6-1, 1-1 Falcons are coming off a loss to Concordia and win at Western Oregon and are 1-0 at home on the season. SPU is centered around Jordan McPhee who leads the team with 16.6 points per game, blocks (6), steals (14), and is third in rebounding (6.0 per game). Down low, Courtney Hollander averages a second best 10.9 ppg and 8.4 rpg, while Lindsay Lee brings 10.3 ppg and a team second best 19 assists to the court. Julia Haining leads the Falcons in rebounding at 9.1 per game along with 7.9 points per game. As a team, Seattle Pacific is averaging 73.4 points per game and allowing 58.6 per game. SPU averages 44.0 rpg, 15.1 apg on 15.9 turnovers per game with 10.1 steals per game and 1.9 blocks per game. The Falcons are shooting .411 percent from the field, .313 percent beyond the arc and .760 percent at the free throw line.
GNAC Recap – After the first week of GNAC action, Alaska Anchorage and Montana State Billings came out unscathed with a 2-0 record. Seven schools split their opening weekend, including Seattle Pacific, Saint Martin's, Western Oregon, Concordia, Northwest Nazarene, Central Washington and Western Washington. Rounding out the standings is Simon Fraser and Alaska at 0-2.
