Paige Miller to extend the Saints' lead to 5-0 after three innings.
The Wolves' bats were silenced through the first five frames behind the dominate pitching of
Lauren Maley before coming alive in the sixth inning. Designated player Green struck again with a double, scoring two runners, that got Western Oregon on the board. Later inning, first baseman Jenna Kelly cut the score to 5-4 on a two RBI single, before Nelson was brought in to extinguish the rally.Â
Maley (8-2) picked up her sixth straight victory after pitching 5.2 innings on 11 hits and four runs. Nelson earned her second save of the season, going 1.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen.
"We had a good defensive day and some offensive bright spots today," said head coach
Rick Noren. "It was great to see
Jackie Schmaeling have another home run today.
Alyssa French had a clutch two out bases clearing double that was a big hit in the game. We'll need to have a better day pitching tomorrow against a strong hitting Concordia team to end the regular season".
