Season Preview – The Saint Martin's volleyball team starts the 2017 season down in San Marcos, California to take part in the Cal State San Marcos Classic where the Saints will face St Cloud State, Fresno Pacific, Adelphi and Cal State San Marcos. SMU returns to the Marcus Pavilion for the Division II West Region Volleyball Showcase from September 7-9. The Saints first match of the tournament will be Humboldt State followed by Point Loma, Notre Dame de Namur, and Cal State Dominguez Hills to wrap up non-conference season. Saint Martin's begins the conference side of action with two home matches against Western Oregon and Concordia on September 14 and 16 respectively. The Saints will face Western Oregon, Concordia, Alaska Fairbanks, Alaska Anchorage, Seattle Pacific, Montana State Billings, Central Washington, Northwest Nazarene, Western Washington, and Simon Fraser in a tradition home-and-home matchup. The Saints return multiple key players from last year's team including Rachel Gondrezick (83 sets, 239 kills, 11 aces), Megan Vernoy (83 sets, 145 kills, 166 points), and Nicolette Nesbitt (83 sets, 503 assists, nine aces). Other returners who made an impact on last season are Ililani Kamaka (49 sets, 75 kills), Brooklynn Tacke (50 sets, 34 kills, 13 aces) and Liz Larsen (37 sets, 15 blocks, 18 kills).

Killingbeck ready to led Saints in second season – Head Coach Jon Killingbeck took over as the Saints' head coach prior to last season and guided the Saints to a four-win improvement. After only winning two matches in 2015, the Saints swept the Cal State East Bay four-game tournament to begin the 2016 season. The Saints finished the season with six wins, the most since the 2013 season.

GNAC Preview – With the top two teams in the West Region from a year ago, including the NCAA National Runner-Up Alaska Anchorage, only one point separated UAA and Western Washington atop this season's GNAC Preseason poll. UAA garnered the top spot after securing 110 points while the Vikings of Western Washington placed second at 109, followed closely by Northwest Nazarene at 106 points. Central Washington (89 points), Simon Fraser (77), Concordia (67), and Western Oregon (50) make up the 4-5-6-7 positions. Seattle Pacific (46), Saint Martin's (26), Alaska Fairbanks (25) and Montana State Billings (21) wrap up the conference poll.
