Western Washington Handles Saints Inside Marcus Pavilion – Complete team effort by Western Washington lifts Vikings over Saint Martin's to a tune of 79-51, inside Marcus Pavilion on Thursday. Entering the game, Western Washington (11-12, 7-8) had defeated Saint Martin's (6-17, 2-13) for 21 straight games, and the Vikings put together a full 40-minute effort to extend the streak to 22 games.
Saints Lose Nail Biter To Simon Fraser At Home – Down by two with six seconds left,
Saniah Simpson-Patu drove to the rim and forced a foul with .6 of a second left; however, her free throws were no good and Simon Fraser escaped Marcus Pavilion with a 60-58 victory on Saturday night. Simpson-Patu tied the game at 58-58 on a layup, only her eighth points of the night, as Saint Martin's (6-18, 2-14) and Simon Fraser (11-13, 6-10) had 18 lead changes and eight ties throughout the contest. On the following possession, SFU was fouled and hit the game-winning free throws to pick up the tough fought road win.
Makenna Schultz Named GNAC Player of the Week – Schultz had one of the best scoring weeks any player has had in the GNAC this season, going off for 33 points against the conference's best defense in Seattle Pacific. Schultz scored 26 second half points while knocking down 6-of-7 shots beyond the arc versus the Falcons and was the first Saint to reach the 30-point mark since Jan. 5, 2016. She did not cool off in the road trip to Montana, adding 19 points and three more 3-pointers, along with three assists. She finished the week averaging 26.0 ppg, 2.0 apg, 66.7 percent from the field, and a staggering 69.2 percent beyond the arc. The award marked the first for Schultz in her career.
Saints Lose Centerpiece Of Program – Senior
Elin Johansson, suffered an injury in the win over Alaska, representing a major loss to the Saints. She ranked third in scoring (14.9), third in field goal percentage (51.3), fifth in minutes played (31.3), eighth in blocked shots (0.8), 10th in defensive rebounding (4.4), 12th in rebounding (6.5), and 13th in offensive rebounding (2.1) at the time of her loss.
Simpson-Patu Rises As One Of The Best In GNAC– One of the top freshman in the conference and country, Simpson-Patu rose up on the GNAC Leaderboard. She began the conference season with 16-points, seven rebounds and two assists, in 29 minutes against Western Oregon. Leading the Saints over Concordia, Simpson-Patu scored a career-high 23 points, along with six rebounds, four assists on 9-for-15 shooting. She continued her run with a 21-point, and career-high 14-rebounds, for her first collegiate double-double against Oklahoma Christian and seven points and nine rebounds against MSUB. Simpson-Patu hit the 20-point mark for the third time with 21 points against Simon Fraser, before setting a new career-high in points with 27 against Alaska. Simpson-Patu hit the 30-point mark against Central Washington, ending with 33 points and eight rebounds. She now ranks sixth in scoring (14.8), fourth in defensive rebounding (5.0) ninth in rebounding (6.5), and eighth in minutes played (30.8).
Schultz, Developing Into A Star – Sophomore
Makenna Schultz is finding her way, inside a competitive GNAC, after scoring a then career-high 20 points against Western Oregon. She shot 8-for-13 from the field with two 3-pointers along with setting a career-high in rebounds with eight. Schultz eclipsed the double-digit scoring average with a 14-point performance at Seattle Pacific, along with six rebounds. She was once again a spark off the bench against MSUB with 15 points and six rebounds. She earned a spot in the starting lineup and reward
Christy Martin with a 13-point, 3-steal performance against CWU and a new career-high 22 points versus NNU. Schultz quickly set a new career-high in points with 33 against SPU en route to her first GNAC Player of the Week Award. Schultz is now third on the team in scoring at 12.4 ppg, which ranks 13th in conference, along with 2.6 rpg, 1.8 apg, and 1.0 spg.
Makenna Schultz Named Saint of the Month – Every month Saint Martin's selects one male and female athlete as Saint of the Month. Schultz, after dominating opponents in the month of January and proving to be one of the best scorers in the conference, has earned the Saint of the Month award. The award marks her first of the collegiate career.
Alaska Preview – Saint Martin's defeated Alaska in their first meeting of the season, 66-61, in January. The Nanooks are 4-18 on the season and 0-16 in conference and are currently on a 13 game losing streak. Lexi Carpenter is the only member for Alaska averaging over double-digits, coming in at 12.9 ppg. Carpenter adds 3.3 rpg and nearly one spg in 31.3 mpg. Emily Evans is second on the team in scoring at 8.8 ppg, while only playing in 25 mpg. Kylie Wallace and Angela Murnion are the two Nanooks who also average over five ppg, at 5.5 and 5.1 ppg respectively. As a team, UAF is averaging 58.9 ppg, while allowing 67.0 ppg. The Nanooks are shooting the ball 37.2 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 65.9 percent at the line. UAF records 38.5 rpg, 12.5 apg on 19.5 turnovers per game, along with 7.6 spg, and 2.4 bpg.

Alaska Anchorage Preview – The Saints carried a halftime lead over the Seawolves in their first meeting; however, Alaska Anchorage rallied to win 76-57. Alaska Anchorage enters the game No. 4 in the country and sits 22-2 overall and 15-1 in conference action. Leading the Seawolves is Shelby Cloninger, who is second in scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.5) in only 23.5 mpg. Close behind is Hannah Wandersee who leads in scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg) along with her 1.3 bpg. Rodericka Ware is the third on the team in scoring, coming in at 9.4 ppg. Tara Thompson, Yazmeen Goo and Kian McNair all play major minutes and combine for 21.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg, and 8.5 apg. As a team, Alaska Anchorage averages 76.5 ppg while allowing 61.5 ppg. The Seawolves shot as a unit 42.0 percent from the field, 32.8 percent beyond the arc, and 72.3 percent at the line. UAA records 38.1 rpg, 19.3 apg on 15.8 turnovers per game, along with 14.4 spg and 3.0 bpg.

GNAC Recap – Alaska Anchorage once again handled business, winning both games and improved to 15-1 in GNAC and 22-2 overall. Northwest Nazarene remains close behind in second place at 14-2 in GNAC. Seattle Pacific regained sole position of third at 12-4 with Montana State and Central Washington tied for fourth at 10-6. Fighting for the last playoff spot is Concordia and the streaking Western Washington, who both sit at 7-9 with Simon Fraser at 6-10 only one game behind. Western Oregon sits two games out of the playoffs at 5-11 and Saint Martin's and Alaska round out the conference at 2-14 and 0-16 respectively.
