LACEY, Wash. – The 2018 season for the Saints' softball program came to a close with two losses to Central Washington, 5-4 an 5-3, on senior day, as five Saints concluded their home playing careers.
Lauren Diuco put the Saints (23-22, 13-15) on the board first in the opening bill of the doubleheader, with a triple, scoring
Nicki DeHan. Central Washington tied the game in the top of third with a RBI single to right field.
DeHan responded back in the bottom half of the inning, singling to the pitcher, bring home
Lindsay Miller. In the fifth inning,
Tessani Dixon connected for a two RBI double to center field, scoring both Lindsay and
Paige Miller to put SMU up 4-1.
However, for the second straight game in the series, Central Washington stunned the Saints, scoring a run on a groundout before a pinch hit three run home put the Wildcats up 5-4. Central closed the door in the seventh to seal the one run victory.
In the second game, Central Washington scored all five of their runs in the opening three innings, including three in the second inning.
The Saints, down to their final outs, put up a fight, loading the bases for Dixon, who doubled to right center scoring two runs.
Kim Nelson drove in the third run of the inning with a sac fly. However, the Wildcats were able to survive the late comeback attempt and were named co-regular season champs of the GNAC with Northwest Nazarene.
Saint Martin's finished the season 23-22, securing their seventh straight winning season, the longest stretch in school history.
