BURNABY, Canada – Simon Fraser scored six unanswered runs to rally back in the first game, 10-7, before
Devyn Connolly monster game at the plate, along with
Lauren Maley's complete game clinched the split with a 6-4 win.
The Saints scored five runs in the third inning of the first game to take a 7-4 lead; however, the Clan chipped away at the score until regaining the lead with a three run home run. Connolly supplied the run support in the second game with home run and five RBIs while Maley earned her 12th win of the season.
Kylie Lopez got the Saints (17-14, 7-7) on the board first with an RBI single up the middle, scoring
Lindsay Miller. Simon Fraser (14-12, 10-8) regained the lead, one of six lead ties or changes in the game, with an RBI double.
L. Miller put SMU back on top with her RBI single down the right field line, scoring
Regan Byrd in the second inning. SFU once again regained the lead, this time with a two run home run in the second inning to cap off a three run second.
The Saints responded with five runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a bases clearing double by L. Miller, giving SMU a 7-4.
Simon Fraser chipped away at the lead with a run in the third and fourth before ultimately retaking the lead for a final time on a three run home run in the fifth. SFU scored six unanswered runs to win 10-7.
All three Saints' pitchers failed to record a clean inning, with L. Miller getting the start, before
Kim Nelson and
Lauren Maley threw the final 4.2 innings of relief.
In the second game Lopez once again got the first run on the board with an RBI single, plating
Lauren Diuco in the first inning.
Devyn Connolly added three runs in the third with her first career home run, putting SMU up 4-0.
Simon Fraser cut the lead to two in the bottom half of the third with a two RBI double to left center. Connolly answered back for the Saints with her own double into the gap, scoring two more runs for her fourth and fifth RBIs of the game. SFU managed to get one run in the sixth and loaded the bases in the seventh, scoring one more run; however, Maley worked out of it with a fly ball to secure the 6-4 win.
Maley (12-8) picked up the win after throwing a complete game, allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits while striking out two.
