Turnovers Prove To Be Fatal In Loss To Alaska Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Facing the 15th-ranked team in the nation in Alaska Anchorage, the Saints had a tall task on the road. The Seawolves used momentum swinging run at the end of the second quarter, and forced 30 turnovers, to lift themselves in the second half en route for the 88-58 victory.

Claire Dingus continued to showcase her offensive skills, dropping 16 points with another 50.0 percent or better shooting night. Makenna Schultz was the only other Saint to reach double-digits, scoring 11 and accounted for five assists. Alaska Anchorage controlled the glass all night, outrebounding SMU to a tune of 40-29 and five Seawolves reached double-figures.

Dingus opened the game on a scoring tear, dropping six points and propelling the Saints to a 10-7 lead in the first five minutes of action. The Seawolves responded with a 17-5 run that ran through the end of the first quarter, into the second.

Leading by double-digits, Alaska Anchorage used their signature full court pressure to continue to disrupt the Saints' offense. The Saints found some momentum after back-to-back 3-pointers by Rebekah Baugh and Makenna Schultz cut the score to four. However, Alaska Anchorage closed the half with another run, this time a 14-2 mark to take a 39-23 lead into halftime.

The Seawolves kept the scoring run going out of the break, putting the first six points, and capped off the 22-4 run. The Saints managed to trim the score to as little as 16 in the second half, using back-to-back 3-pointers by Jayla Russ and Bria Thames; however, Alaska Anchorage never gave more room than that.

On top of Dingus and Schultz's performances, Baugh ended with five points, a team-high nine rebounds and two assists. Russ ended the night with five points, a career-high seven assists, and two boards, while Thames added nine points.
