Kamaka's Career Night Not Enough in Saints' Loss to SPU

LACEY, Wash. - Despite a career record 11 kills by Ililani Kamaka, the Saints' struggles continued with a three set loss to Seattle Pacific on Tuesday night.

The Saints and Falcons battled back and forth throughout the beginning of the first set. Seattle Pacific capitalized on inconsistent passing and hitting errors from the Saints, ending the set 25-14.

In the second set, the Saints took an early 8-5 lead; however, the Falcons responded with a 6-1 run to re energize their offense. Neither side gave an inch throughout the second set, but the Falcons were able to stave off the Saints' comeback attempt with a 25-20 result.

The Saints took another early lead in the third set; however, with multiple errors from the Saints, the Falcons tied it up 9-9. Capitalizing on Falcons' errors, the Saints managed to pull ahead 16-13. Like the previous set, Seattle Pacific once again found the offense needed down the stretch to squeeze out the set victory over SMU 25-23.

On top of Kamaka's career high in kills she finished the match with eight digs and one block. Mackenzie Carter finished with six kills, while Alyssa Bartlett led with 10 assists. Liberos Kylie Alos and Kiana Pel combined for 14 digs.
