SEATTLE – Lights out pitching from
Jessica O'Toole,
Lauren Maley, and
Brandi Schoessler, quieted the Yellowjackets to only two runs over 14 innings, including a shutout in the second game. In the first game, with the game winning runner on second, pinch hitter
Alyssa French delivered the clutch, walk-off double to right center to help the Saints sweep on the day, and clinch the series with Montana State Billings.
Schoessler picked up both wins on the day, improving her record to 7-1, which is second most wins in the GNAC. Behind her 6.1 innings of shutout work on the day, Schoessler struck out six batters, including the final three of the second game, and only allowed four hits. O'Toole was the opener in both tilts, going a combined 4.1 innings, while only giving up one hit. Maley worked to a tune of 3.1 innings, and also only allowed one hit. The Saints' offense only delivered five runs on the day; however, it was all that was need as the Saints improved to 9-7 overall, and took three out of four to open up the GNAC schedule.
In the first game, Montana State Billings got the first lead of the game, scoring two runs in the fourth inning on a single up the middle and a sac fly. However, they did not hold the lead long, as the Saints tied up the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Kylie Vanderbout put SMU on the board with her single to right field, and after a fielding error,
Trinity Favela scored on the error.
Devyn Connolly followed it up with a single to shortstop, scoring
Regan Byrd, and the game was knotted at 2-2.
The score remained the same until the final inning, with Connolly singling up the middle to lead off.
Lauren Diuco executed the sac bunt to move pinch runner
Nicki DeHan into scoring position with one out. French was called on, and the senior answered a spot in the right center gap to walk-off the game in style.
In the second game, the Saints quickly got on the scoreboard, opening with a sac fly from
Kylie Lopez to score
Emery Norwood. The next action did not come until the sixth inning, when a fielding error by MSUB allowed DeHan to score and the Saints' lead extended to 2-0. Schoessler closed out the game with three straight strikeouts and the Saints ended the weekend with three wins.
