ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Wildcats got the better of the Saints in the opener of the doubleheader, but the Saints bounced back behind a strong performance from
Lauren Maley. Maley's complete game, and nine runs of the support, fueled the Saints' 9-3 victory over the top team in the GNAC.
Central Washington took care of business in the first game of the doubleheader, 11-0, jumping on the Saints' errors and strung together hits. In the second game, Saint Martin's flipped the script and pounced on the Wildcats' errors. Highlighted by a five run fourth inning, the Saints had all the runs they needed for Maley, as the senior went for the complete game, allowing three runs on only seven hits.
In the opener, the Wildcats started off a three run first inning, before expanding their lead to eight in the second inning. Central Washington added to the score in the fourth with another three runs, while limiting the Saints to no runs on two hits.
The second game was the opposite results as the Saints quickly got on the board.
Julia Lucas's RBI double to right center scored Kylie Vanderbout for a 1-0 lead. Central Washington tied the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single to center.
Nicki DeHan broke the tie in the third with her RBI single, scoring two more runs. Saint Martin's added to the lead in the fourth, starting with
Emery Norwood's fielder's choice, scoring one. Two errors by Central Washington in the inning proceeded to allow four more runs to come in to score for a Saints' 8-1 lead.
Saint Martin's added their ninth and final run in the sixth on a RBI single from
Regan Byrd en route to the 9-3 victory.
The Saints hit the road for the final weekend of the regular season, traveling to Western Oregon and Concordia next week.
