Softball's Season Comes To A Close In Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Saints' Softball season came to a close in their final doubleheader against Concordia, where the Cavaliers took both ends of the twin bill, 4-2 and 8-0.

Saint Martin's offense never found its rhythm at the plate and was unable to string together multiple hits. Kylie Vanderbout and Alyssa French delivered the lone two runs of the day, both of which came in the opening game. Brandi Schoessler put together a solid complete game in the first game, going six innings, allowing four runs and striking out seven. She ended the season with a team-leading 15 wins.

Concordia opened up the day with a run in the first inning, scoring on an infield single. SMU tied the game in the next half inning, when Vanderbout singled up the middle, bringing home French.

The Cavaliers regained the lead with a solo shot in the fourth but the Saints responded once again. In the top of the sixth, French ripped a double down the left field line to score Sabrina Hicks and knot the game at 2-2. However, it was a two final runs in the bottom of the sixth that clinched the game for Concordia in the opener.

Concordia wasted no time in the second bill, scoring six runs in the opening frame to jump out to a lead. They proceeded to add two more in the third and were able to limit the Saints to only three hits in the game to keep them off the scoreboard.

The Saints closed out the year with a 20-27 record, marking their eighth straight season with 20 or more wins. However, SMU will miss the GNAC Championships for the second straight season.

Saint Martin's said its final goodbye to four seniors, Alyssa French, Lauren Maley, Sabrina Hicks, and Lauren Diuco. The senior class leaves Saint Martin's with 102 victories over the four years.
