Saints Take Set Off Alaska Anchorage

LACEY, Wash. – After a quick first set, the Saints started to find life in the second set against Alaska Anchorage. Saint Martin's managed to grind out the third set victory before eventually falling in four to the Seawolves 25-12, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20 on Saturday night.
 
The Seawolves made quick work of the Saints in the opening set, collected 13 kills on only one error, while the Saints committed nine errors.
 
Alaska Anchorage jumped out to an early lead in the second set; however, the Saints find some offensive grove late in the second and closed the gap to only six.
 
The momentum Saint Martin's found in the last rallies of the second set, carried over into the third. The Saints led throughout a majority of the set until the Seawolves rattled off four in a row to claim a 19-18 lead. SMU struck right back, using a 6-1 run to secure the set at 25-23.
 
In the fourth and final set of the match, Alaska Anchorage and Saint Martin's continued to grind away at each other. In the end, it was the Seawolves who found the last run to square away the victory in four.
 
Freshman Kiana Pel finished with a career high in digs with 25, while Ililani Kamaka led the team with nine kills, along with seven digs. Alyssa Bartlett recorded the double-double with 24 assists, and 11 digs. Britney Duvall added eight kills with two blocks, including a solo.
 
The Saints head to Northwest Nazarene next Thursday to face the Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. PST. Live stats and video of the match will be available on smusaints.com.
