PORTLAND, Ore. – After a historic win at home against Western Washington last week, the Saints kept the momentum rolling with a strong defensive outing, 60-48, against Concordia on the road.
Claire Dingus led the Saints effort with another double-double, ending with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Janealle Sutterlict continued her strong offensive roll with an 14-point, seven rebound outing.
Bria Thames and
Jayla Russ each added eight points, while Thames finished with a game-high 13 rebounds. The highlight for the team came in the third quarter as Saint Martin's nearly held Concordia without a field goal for the entire ten minutes.
In the opening quarter, Concordia started with a 7-4 lead but the Saints quickly erased the deficit. SMU responded by going on an 8-1 run, holding Concordia without a field goal for nearly five minutes, and taking a 12-7 lead. CU managed to regain the lead but a layup from Dingus pushed the Saints into a 14-13 advantage at the quarter break.
Saint Martin's continued to build on their lead throughout the entire second quarter, reaching double-digits by the end.
Janealle Sutterlict led the offense with her seven points, while Dingus, and Thames added another 10 combined. The three for Saint Martin's outscored Concordia 18-12 in the quarter alone.
The Saints came out of the break locked in on the defensive zone. Concordia found zero answers and failed to score their points 7:30 minutes into the quarter. The Cavaliers didn't connect on a field goal until their final possession of the quarter. Meanwhile, Saint Martin's continued to pull away, stretching their lead to as many as 21.
SMU continued to knocked down shots in the fourth quarter, hitting a game-high 24 point lead. Concordia managed to turn around the momentum down stretch, closing the gap to 12 but never any closer. The Saints rolled to the 60-48 victory on the road.
Saint Martin's as a team shot 21-for-59 (35.6 percent) from the floor, and 5-for-19 (26.3 percent) beyond the arc, and 13-for-14 (92.9 percent) at the line. SMU dominated the boards, outrebounding CU 51-to-24, while collecting nine assists on 18 turnovers, along with four steals and one block.
