LACEY, Wash. –
Brandi Schoessler received all the run support she would need in the Saints' opening game victory over Concordia, pitching a complete game gem. However, Concordia drew even with a 4-0 victory to close out the day.
Saint Martin's (7-5, 2-1 GNAC) scored all five of their runs on the day in the opening frame of the first game.
Devyn Connolly got it going with a two RBI double to right center.
Julia Lucas was next up and drove in one with her single down the right field line.
Kylee Vanderbout added the final run with a single up the middle to complete the five run inning.
Schoessler (5-2) was nearly perfect through the first four innings, limiting Concordia (12-13, 1-3) in all offensive areas. The Cavaliers had three of the four hits from one player, Hannah Self, who connected for their first run of the game, a solo shot to center in the fifth. Concordia managed to score one more in the seventh, capitalizing on errors, but ultimately were held to only two runs in the game.
Schoessler picked up the complete game, allowing only four hits, two runs, one earned, with no walks, and four strikeouts.
In the second game, Concordia returned the favor with a pitching gem of their own, holding the Saints scoreless.
The Cavaliers broke open the game in the fourth inning with three runs, and managed to add another in the seventh to force a split with the Saints.
Abby Runyon (2-2) got the start, going 5.1 innings, allowing three runs, none earned, on six hits, with two strikeouts. Schoessler pitched the final two outs to close out the ballgame.
The Saints travel to Oregon for a pair of doubleheaders during the week, starting with Warner Pacific on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
