Saints' Historic Season Comes To A Close In Alaska

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – A historic season for Saint Martin's volleyball came to a close Saturday night in Alaska, as the Saints fell 3-0 to the Seawolves.

Saint Martin's (10-18, 3-15) offense heated up as the match went on but was unable to keep pace with Alaska Anchorage (19-11, 12-6). The Seawolves hit above .340 as a team for each set, finishing at .374. Tia Allen led the way with eight kills, followed by the Gooding sisters with a total of nine.

Saint Martin's jumped out to an early lead in the first set, 6-3, before Alaska Anchorage caught fire in the middle of the set. The Seawolves used the 8-2 run to carry to a set victory, despite the Saints cutting the lead down to two twice.

The second set began with back-and-forth action, with Saint Martin's leading 8-7. However, UAA found their flow midway through, powering to a 14-2 run and a 25-13 set victory.

Saint Martin's gave the Seawolves another run in the final set, trailing only by four late in the action. But the Seawolves ended the match with four straight points to seal the three set victory.

Analise Hitchcock added 21 assists and four digs, while Kylie Alos led the team with 14 digs. Saint Martin's as a team collected 28 kills on 93 swings with 18 errors.

The 2021 season will go down in the Saints' record books as the team broke several major records. The year began with the longest perfect start as SMU went 5-0 in their opening matches. Then the Saints broke the school record for most wins in a single season in the NCAA era with 10.
