Saints Dominate Inside The Circle For Doubleheader Sweep

LACEY, Wash. – Over 14 innings, Abby Runyon and Tia Ridings shut down the Pirates' bats as Saint Martin's clinched the weekend series over Whitworth on Sunday afternoon.

For the second time in her career, Runyon (2-1) pieced together a complete game shutout, silencing the Pirates (1-3) to only three hits en route to her second career shutout. Megan Convery delivered to with two clutch extra base hits to supply Tia Ridings (3-0) with all the run support she needed to complete the weekend series win.

The Saints (5-1) capitalized on the Pirates' errors in the opening game, scoring once in third on a scoring error, and once again in the fourth on another error.

Runyon only needed one as the freshman was nearly unhittable, going the distance while allowing zero hopes for the Pirates' offense. Runyon punched out five batters, while allowing zero walks on the day.

In the series finale, Julia Lucas deliver with the early RBI, coming in the form a double right center in the first inning. Convery connected for four of the Saints' RBIs in the game as Saint Martin's ran away late with the game.

Ridings did not allow the first run of the game until the first sixth inning, when Whitworth finally managed to score their first runs of the day. However, it proved too little, too late as the Saints held on for their fifth win of the season.

Saint Martin's return to action next weekend at home against Montana State Billings on Saturday, March 6 at noon.
