Saints End Season On High Note With Victory Over Warner Pacific

LACEY, Wash. – In the final contest of the 2020-21 season for the Saints, Tierney DeDonatis and Claire Dingus combined to form a 48-point double threat in the 79-46 victory over Warner Pacific on Saturday night inside Marcus Pavilion.

DeDonatis nearly completed a career best performance with 25 points to lead all scorers, while Claire Dingus marked her 16th career double-double as a Saint with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Saint Martin's closed out the game with a 33-point victory after holding a double-digit lead since the beginning of the second quarter.

The Saints and Nighthawks went basket-for-basket in the opening minutes of the first quarter. After the score being tied at 5-5, the Saints caught fire and never looked back. Back-to-back 3-pointers gave the Saints their first big lead jump of the quarter, then held this for a 22-15 end to the first quarter.

The Saints kept their foot on the gas to open the second quarter, extending their lead to 16 points with a 9-0 run behind four different Saints. At the two-minute mark, WPU scored five straight points, which DeDonatis responded with a 3-pointer. The Knights ended the half with a pair of free throws to cut the lead down to 14 points.

Out of the break, Warner Pacific cut down the lead to just 10 points before the double-threat responded with a three and layup to build the lead back up. The Saints finished out the quarter outscoring the Knights 10-to-4 to extend the lead past the 20-point mark.

In the final quarter, SMU held the momentum the entire way. DeDonatis finished out the game with five straight points in the two points to give the Saints a final home court victory of the season.

Rian Clear ended her first season as a Saint with seven points and seven rebounds, while Emily Nelson recorded seven points and six rebounds. Jeanealle Sutterlict finished with six points, three rebounds, and two assists.
