Saints Go The Distance In Loss To Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Saints and the Eagles went back and forth all night, going to five sets. However, in the end, Northwest edged out the Saints 15-to-10 to secure the victory.

Saint Martin's collected 55 kills led by Kylie Coon's 18. In the final set, Northwest jumped out to an early lead. The Saints were able to cut the lead down to just one, before a late surge by the Eagles ended the match.

In the opening set Northwest held a slight lead before the Saints rattled off six straight points to regain the lead. Maddie Gooding highlighted the run with her three straight aces to put the Saints on top 15-to-10. Kills from Coon and Ilana Sagapolutele, along with the Saints capitalizing on Northwest errors wrapped up the opening frame 25-to-20. 

Northwest rallied to take the second set 25-to-20, and the two sides traded blows in the third set but NU managed to squeeze out the 26 to 24 victory in the end. 

The Saints came back strong in the fourth set collecting 14 kills with a team hitting percentage of .370. The set came to an end on a kill from Gracie Brenner who ended the match nearly perfect with seven kills on nine swings. 

The Saints had their best service performance, collecting 14 aces on the night. Giselle Benetti led the team with four, and Zoe Balagot and Gooding had three each.
