MONMOUTH, Ore. – Saint Martin's season came to an end in their second game of the GNAC Championships, falling to four seed Western Oregon 7-6 on Friday.
Saint Martin's capitalized on early Western Oregon errors, hanging a six spot in the second inning. A pinch-hit bases-clearing double by
Malia Pinder put the Saints on the board, followed by an RBI from
Britney Patrick.
Julia Lucas and
Olivia Schmidt continued the inning with RBI singles, and the Saints opened up a 6-1 lead in the top of the second.
However, the Wolves quickly found themselves back in the game, delivering a grand slam in the bottom half of the second. An RBI single later in the second tied the game at 6-6.
Western Oregon managed to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win in the seventh.
Saint Martin's had traffic on the bases each of the innings, but two double plays forced the Saints out of opportunities.
On the year, the Saints finished 19-18, marking their ninth winning season in the last 10 years.
