LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's hosted Alaska for a tightly-contested seesaw match. Despite a valiant effort from the Saints, the Nanooks came out on top 3-0 and gave Saint Martin's their second conference loss of the season.
Alaska (9-5, 2-0 GNAC) came out strong and overwhelmed the Saints (5-5, 0-2 GNAC) to take set one, 25-14.
Saints rebounded and found their footing in set two. Timely kills from
Gracie Brenner, stellar defense from
Kylie Alos and great defensive adjustments from the Saints gave them a short lead. The Nanooks rallied back and would go on an 11-1 run to take the set.
Set three was tightly contested as the two teams swapped leads back and forth the entire set. Neither team had more than a three point lead until the end of the set when Alaska went on a 4-0 run to close out the set and win the match. Saint Martin's had a great defensive and offensive showing in the last set but couldn't close it out.
Emily Gooding led the team in kills with eight,
Analise Hitchcock led the team with 14 assists and
Kylie Alos was the team leader in digs with 14.
The Saints look to get another win streak started with their upcoming home match against Linfield on Sep. 21 at 7:00 P.M.
