LACEY, WA. – The Saint Martin's volleyball team (12-7, 2-7 GNAC) came up short Saturday evening by a score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-16) against Simon Fraser University (7-11, 4-5 GNAC).
The first set saw Simon Fraser take a 17-12 lead before the Saints stormed back to eventually tie the game on a
Tia Allen kill and take the lead on the ensuing
Kylie Coon kill. Unfortunately for the home supporters, the Red Leafs would grab the final four points, with the lone point for SMU coming by way of a
Karla Soto kill. The second set had the Saints launched into a quick deficit early, down 13-3 in the blink of an eye. Multiple runs including four straight with
Mahina Pescaia serving drew Saint Martin's close, but SFU was too much. In the third, Simon Fraser led from the jump to the finish, to close out the match with a 3-0 win.
Allen led the Saint with 10 kills while having eight digs.
Abigail Halstead was solid on the backline with 13 digs herself, while
Jennifer Soha was a solid contributor at seven kills.
The Saints are back in action on the road next Thursday, October 13
th, as they face off with the Wildcats of Central Washington (10-7, 5-4 GNAC). That game will start at 7 PM in Ellensburg.
