BURNABY, B.C. – The Saint Martin's volleyball team (13-12, 3-12 GNAC) weren't able to grind back from another 2-0 deficit Thursday night, as they fell to Simon Fraser University (11-13, 8-7 GNAC) by a score of 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20).
After losing the first two sets, the Saints came up with a heck of an effort in the third. After falling behind 6-1, SMU rallied from their deficit to get back in the set, eventually taking the lead on a five-point rally with
Karla Soto serving. The rally was started by an
Emmy Hansen kill, and including an ace, another Hansen kill, and a block from Hansen and
Loredana Fouonji. After Simon Fraser regained the lead at 23-22, the Saints once again rallied, scoring the final three points to pull off a 25-23 set victory. SFU would go on to win the fourth set and take the match.
The Saints will now take on the No. 9 ranked Western Washington Vikings (18-5, 13-2 GNAC) this Saturday at 5 PM in Bellingham.
