Saints Rally in Second Half but Fall in Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Saint Martin's women's basketball team (3-6, 0-2 GNAC) couldn't claw their way all the way back Saturday evening, as a rough first half left them with a 74-54 loss against Central Washington (7-1, 2-0 GNAC). The Saints outscored the Wildcats by eight in the second half, but the deficit they faced going into the locker room was just too much to overcome.

Baskets were hard to come by in the first half, with SMU totaling just six shots from the field before the intermission. However, the Saints came out with a vengeance in the second half to outplay the team with the best record in the GNAC thus far this year. Emily Nelson started the scoring in the third, with Kiana Rios following that up with a bucket of her own. Saint Martin's finished the quarter on a 7-0 run fueled by five points from Anjel Galbraith and two from Rios.

The Saints made it rain in the fourth, with all their makes from the field going as threes. It was four different SMU players that splashed it in from deep as Galbraith hit the first, Rios hit the second, Rian Clear then knocked one down, before Mya Hatchett-Groce finished off the three-point frenzy. The Saints still ended up falling by 20. Clear led the scoring with 14, while Galbraith was right behind with 12.

After four straight games on the road, the Saints are finally back at home next week when they matchup with the Evergreen State College (3-2, 1-1 CCC) on Saturday, December 10th. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:15 PM at Marcus Pavilion. Make sure to get down there early for Warming Up with the Saints which will be happening for the first time this season.
