Saints’ T&F Set New PR’s at Whitworth Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. – Margaret Zilla was the top finisher for the Saints at the Whitworth Indoor Invitational, finishing fifth in the women's triple jump. Claire Skaggs was the next top finisher for SMU, with a seventh placefinish in women's pole vault.

Zilla fouled her first attempt before landing her longest distance of 9.61m on her next attempt. She fouled her next two attempts and finished her final two attempts with distances of 9.45m and 9.59m to give her a fifth place finish with a distance of 31-ft 6.5in. 

Skaggs passed on 2.82m, cleared 2.97m on her final attempt, cleared 3.12m on her first attempt, cleared 3.27m on her final attempt and failed to clear 3.42m to earn a new PR at a height of 10-ft 8.77-in. Behind her, Brianna Cabrera finished eighth with a height of 10-ft 2.75-in after successfully clearing 2.97m and 3.12m. 

Eden Mortensen placed 11th in the women's high jump with a height of 4-ft 10.5-in. 

In the men's pole vault, Andrew Alfred cleared 4.06m and 4.21m to earn a 10th place finish at a height of 13-ft 9.75-in. 

Jocelyn Saribay threw for a distance of 34-ft 9-in in women's shot put to earn an 11th place finish and set a new PR in women's weight throw with a distance of 41-ft 6-in. 

Andrew Boyd set a new PR in men's shot put with a distance of 36-ft 11.75-in. 

"We came into this meet looking to prepare for the conference championships, and our athletes competed well on tired legs," said head coach Scott Carter.

The Saints spend the next week preparing for the GNAC Indoor Championships, February 20-22, in Spokane, Washington.
