LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's pulled off their four-game sweep of Bushnell with a pair of 7-3 and 9-7 victories, stretching their win streak to six in a row on Sunday.
Saint Martin's (10-8) wasted no time jumping on Bushnell (6-13) in the first inning of the day on an RBI single from
Destiny Conerly. The Saints added to the lead in the third with a RBI double from
Vanessa Smoke.
In the fourth, the Saints scored two more on an RBI hit from
Devyn Connolly, and
Britney Patrick's RBI fielder's choice. Saint Martin's opened up the lead to 7-0 in the sixth on an error, a sac fly, and a bases loaded walk.
Bushnell managed to score their first runs of the series in the seventh on a bases clearing triple before
Chloe Leverington shut the door.
Tia Ridings got the start, going three innings, allowing only one hit, and striking out six. Leverington, who got the win, pitched the final four, giving up three runs on four hits with six strikeouts of her own.
Saint Martin's once again struck quick, scoring four runs in the opening inning of game two. RBIs from Conerly, Connolly, and
Olivia Schmidt gave the Saints the early lead.
Bushnell answered in the fourth with a pair of runs to cut the lead in half. In the bottom half of the inning,
Malia Pinder drove in her first RBI on a single to right, setting up Conerly with two runners on. The shortstop connected for her third home run of the season, a three-run blast to left to break open the game at 8-2.
However, Bushnell managed to respond right back with four runs of their own in the fifth to make it an 8-6 ballgame. Saint Martin's tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single from Patrick. The Beacons threatened in the seventh, scoring a run but ultimately fell short, completing the four-game sweep.
Abby Runyon earned her third win of the season after going four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, and three strikeouts.
Kylie Parsons earned the save after pitching the final three innings.
