TURLOCK, Calif. – Despite a four-hole playoff, the tie could not be broken as
Tyler Fitchett, along with Aiden Thain of Western Washington, earned co-medalist honors at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational on Tuesday.
COMPLETE RESULTS
Fitchett (70-69-70-209) finished the final round two-under par to bring him to seven-under par on the tournament. After three straight pars to begin the day, Fitchett made his lone bogey on 14. The lefty rebounded with an eagle on 16 and proceeded to go par on 10 straight holes. He wrapped up the day with a birdie on nine to put himself back into a tie for first.
After 18 holes on the day, and 54 in the tournament, Thain and Fitchett remained gridlocked at seven-under, and proceeded to a playoff. In a sudden death format, the two went par over the first four holes, still tied at seven-under. Due to time restraints, the playoff was ended with the golfers being named Co-Medalists.
Dennis Geissler (78-81-67-226) saw the largest improvement of any golfer in the tournament, dropping 14 strokes to finish the final round five-under par. On the front nine, Geissler went four-under par with four birdies, and carded another three birdies on the back nine to finish one-under par.
Max Turnquist (78-71-78-227) placed third on the team, just one stroke behind Geissler.
Jordan Terada (82-81-75-238) saw a strong improvement in the final round, and
Ethan Finau (81-77-86-244) closed out the scoring for the Saints.
As a team, Saint Martin's finished 10th in the strong field with a total score of 895 and posted a round best of 290 in the third and final round.
"Great win for Tyler (Fitchett), which made him the second most all-time medalist winner in program history behind All-American Shane Prante," stated head coach
Kevin Bishop. "Awesome round of 67 for Dennis (Geissler) also today. Overall, better performance as a team, and off to Colorado for our next tournament."
The Saints travel to Pueblo, Colorado for their final regular season tournament at the Southern Colorado Masters on April 11 and 12.
