Box Score LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's season came to end on Thursday afternoon, falling to top-ranked Western Washington, 60-54, in the GNAC Quarterfinals.

Josie Matz led the way in scoring for the Saints, dropping 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting with three rebounds, and four assists. Rian Clear, and Tierney DeDonatis each finished with 12 points, while Claire Dingus went for eight points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Chenoa Louie, and Emma Wrede came off the bench for four and three points respectively.

Western Washington got a quick jump on the Saints opening up a 15-4 lead in the first five minutes of action. A basket at 6:11 mark by Matz was the last made field goal by the Saints in the first quarter and trailed by 11 at the end of the quarter one.

The Saints' defense started to find their footing at the end of the first quarter, limiting Western Washington to only one made field goal in the final five minutes. The trend continued as the Vikings were only able to score four minutes into the second quarter. Over the nine-minute hold, the Saints trimmed the lead down to four on field goals from DeDonatis and Matz.

Western Washington pushed the lead back to seven with just seconds left on the clock. In the Saints' final look, Matz was fouled on a 3-point attempt, and converted all three free throws. Then a Vikings' intentional foul put Dingus at the line for one attempt and gave SMU the ball back. On the in-bounds, Clear connected from deep to tie the game at 27-27, with the Saints scoring seven points in the final four seconds.

Just like how the first half begun, the Saints scored the opening basket, followed by a Matz's layup, gave SMU a four-point lead. After the quick offense, the Saints were unable to get more than a layup from DeDonatis and Louie for the rest of the quarter as the Vikings held on for a five-point lead at the quarter break.

Western Washington's lead hit as many as 11 in the fourth before the Saints began chipping away once again. A pair of free throws from Clear, along with six straight points from Dingus made it a one possession game again with just five minutes left on the clock.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from the Vikings sparked an 8-2 run that proved to be the difference maker as the Saints were unable to overcome the late surge, falling 60-54 in the quarterfinals.
