Saints' SB Locks Up Two Seed With Split At Western Washington

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – After falling in the opening game, the Saints rallied in game two to secure the second overall seed in the GNAC Championships, beating Western Washington 8-3 on Sunday.

The Saints will face the Vikings in the opening round of the GNAC Championships in Lacey on their home field, starting Thursday, May 5. The victory also set a milestone for head coach Jim Peterson, marking his 100th victory at the helm of the program.

Western Washington silenced the Saints' bats in the opener, as the Vikings used a three run fifth inning to take the game 4-0.

The Vikings struck first in the second game, scoring three runs in the first, but it was all they would get. Abby Runyon settled in and proceeded to toss six shutout innings to finish the game and give the Saints' offense an opportunity.

The bats delivered in the second inning on a three-run home run from Destiny Conerly to tie the game. Kylee Vanderbout drove in Janell Williams in the third to put the Saints on top.

Saint Martin's proceeded to add insurance runs in the fourth on an RBI double from Britney Patrick, and three more in the fifth on RBI from Conley and Vanessa Smoke, and a wild pitch. The Saints never looked back and cruised to the 8-3 victory.

For the Saints, they finish the regular season at 29-18, with a 17-7 record in conference action. Their 29 wins mark the most since the 2016 season, and the most under Peterson.
