DUPONT, WA. – The Saint Martin's men's golf team opened up their season this weekend to a ninth-place finish at the SMU Bishop Invitation at The Home Course. Highlighting the performance was Kyle Erwin who finished 24th and became just the second ever person to hit a hole-in-one on hole 12 at the Bishop Invite at The Home Course. Carter Sheets competed as an individual but came up tied with Erwin for 24th after shooting an incredibly impressive 69 in Round One on Friday.

Erwin was the top finisher for the Saints as a team, while Maxwell Turnquist wasn't far behind at 29th. Two strokes behind Turnquist was Jordan Terada, while Ethan Finau and Mason Bratcher were also part of the lineup for SMU. Like Sheets, Mason Rohleder and Hewie Nquyen also competed as individuals for the Saints. Rohleder was one of the more consistent players on the course, with his 25 pars being good for sixth most among all competitors.

The highlight of the Inivite for the home squad, was, without a doubt, the hole-in-one by Erwin on Hole 12 in Round 2. Erwin uncorked a perfect shot on the 190-yard hole that found its way to the cup marking only the second time ever a player has done that at that hole in this Invite. Erwin and Nquyen were also two of just eight players to get an eagle in the Invite. Another highlight was the entire day one from Sheets who ended the round with at three under and in a tie for fourth place.

The team will make the short drive north to Bellingham where they will compete in the Western Washington Invitational on Monday and Tuesday for their next competition.
