DUPONT, WA. – The Saint Martin's women's golf team opened their season on Friday and Saturday to the tune of a very successful finish at the SMU Bishop Invitational at The Home Course. The Saints trotted out a lineup that was a mix of experience and youth that was able to climb their way on to the podium and finish in third place led by a strong individual performance from
Kelsie Inouye, who finished fourth at +8 in her first collegiate contest.
After day one, things didn't look as great for the Saints as they closed out Friday in fifth place, with Western Washington, Simon Fraser, Hawaii-Hilo, and Northwest Nazarene all sitting in front of SMU. On day two, it was all about the major improvements from
Jada French and
Kathryn Crimp who shaved off their stroke total by five and three strokes, respectively. French finished fifth among all participants in pars with 22. Crimp had the lone eagle for SMU, three-stroking hole ten on Friday.
Inouye had one of the best days of anybody on Friday, when she hit 74 to sit in a tie for third at +2, just one stroke behind the lead. Her score dropped a little on Saturday, but she still kept pace with the top five and ended up in a three-way tie for fourth in the Invite. Inouye's strength was the par 4s where she shot the second best among all players in the Invite.
Katherine Swor and
Ashley Bruland were the other two Saints in the lineup for Saint Martin's and they each had nice outings, hitting 161 and 169, respectively. Being a home meet, the Saints also threw three players in the mix to compete as individuals.
Hannah White was the highest finisher among the individual group for SMU, ending up 38
th.
Sabrina Poole slotted in at 45
th, while
Jade Rebelo finished 50
th.
The team will head to Bellingham on Monday, October 10
th, to participate in the Western Washington Invitational.
