BELLINGHAM, WA. – The Saint Martin's men's golf team finished up their second tournament in five days Tuesday, when they had a 12
th place finish at the Western Washington Invitational in Bellingham. Maxwell Turnquist was the top finisher for the Saints, folding in at 16
th place.
Turnquist started off with an incredible day one on Monday, shooting -3 for a score of 69. He cooled off a little bit in round two shooting 75, before a 73 in the final round gave him a grand total of 217, or one over par. Turnquist thrived on Par 5s, shooting five under throughout the tournament on those holes, including grabbing the lone eagle of the weekend for Saint Martin's when he three-stroked hole one in his final round.
Kyle Erwin was probably the most consistent Saint, firing a 74, 73, and a 74 in his three rounds.
Mason Rohleder improved on his score each round, turning an 82 into a 75, then all the way down to a 73 in his final 18 holes.
Jordan Terada and
Carter Sheets rounded out the lineup for the Saints, while
Ethan Finau competed as an individual.
The men's golf team now has about a month off before heading halfway across the Pacific Ocean to compete in two tournaments in Hawaii starting with the Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout on October 24-25.
