ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Saint Martin's suffered their first loss of the season on the road against the Seawolves bringing their historic streak to an end at nine games.
 
The Saints (9-1, 0-1) lost in straight sets to Alaska Anchorage (11-1, 1-0) in their first GNAC game of the season.
 
In the first set, SMU scored the opening point with a kill by Maddy Gooding. The set was neck and neck until UAA used a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 18-12 and another 6-0 run to close out the set 25-15.
 
In the second set, the Saints held the early lead 5-3 before Alaska Anchorage used a 5-0 run to regain the lead 8-5. From here the Seawolves maintained their momentum and won the set 25-17.
 
In the final set, Saint Martin's kept UAA within striking distance the entire match, never letting the deficit expand to more than three points. Late in the set the Saints trimmed the deficit to one point, 24-23 but Alaska Anchorage held on to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
 
Karla Soto lead the team in assists with 22 and in aces with three. Abigail Halstead was the defensive anchor with 16 digs and Gooding had a team-high seven blocks. Tia Allen lead in kills with eight.
 
The Saints continue their Alaska tour on Saturday, September 10 against the Alaska Nanooks at 3 p.m.
