Waimea, Haw. – The Saint Martin's men's golf team finished up their fall schedule with a top ten finish in Hawaii, coming in at 9th place in the Dennis Rose Invitational in Hawaii. This was following a 14th place finish at the HPU Sharks Shootout. Kyle Erwin had the best overall score for the Saints on the weekend, finishing tied for 39th before finishing tied for 33rd.

In the three rounds of the HPU Sharks Shootout, the Saints improved their score each round. Starting with a 303 on Monday, they improved to a 301 later that day. Then on Tuesday the team rallied to a 296 team score in order to climb some spots up the board. Max Turnquist tied Erwin for 39th while Carter Sheets was right behind in 43rd. The Saints did finish with a 10-stroke advantage over Western Washington.

"It was a great experience for the guys, course was in great shape with a variety of challenges on each hole," said Head Coach Zach Dietz, "Overall, we played well but didn't quite make enough putts and had too many penalty strokes as a team to have a higher finish. This course did prepared us well for the Dennis Rose Invitational where we had a better finish and beat some key teams in our region."

In Waimea on Thursday and Friday, the Saints once again finished above Western Washington, and also above another GNAC foe in Northwest Nazarene. Erwin once again shot incredibly when, totaling a +3 on the tournament that put him in a tie for 33rd with his teammate Nick Ennis. Both Turnquist and Chase Gardner finished one stroke back of that duo, tied for 39th.

"Another great course to wrap up the Hawaii Swing and Fall Season, said Dietz, "Hapuna is another very challenging golf course which has a lot of elevation change as it's located on the side of the mountains and also tough off tee boxes with small landing zones for longer clubs. On any given hole, I saw guys hitting anything from 4 Iron to Driver, so picking the correct club was a difficult decision at times. Course strategy played an important role and I thought we did a good job of executing and making the right choices all in all. We had a great finish on the final two holes which was huge considering we jumped up four spots on the leaderboard those last two. Kyle had a clutch eagle on his 2nd to last hole and Max made birdie on his final hole. The rest of the guys also had a solid finish while our Freshman, Nick Ennis had a nice even par round. All this led to us to finishing ahead of some top teams in our region. I'm proud of the way our guys played and ended the Fall Season. Go Saints!"

The Saints are now off for the winter before a rigorous spring schedule will arrive in a few months.
