LACEY, Wash. – The Saint Martin's volleyball team (16-9, 9-6 GNAC) dropped the first set on Thursday against Simon Fraser University (14-9, 9-6 GNAC), but were able to perform a ferocious comeback and win by a score of 3-1 (16-25, 25-17, 25-21, 26-24). The three-headed monster of
Jennifer Soha,
Emily Garten, and
Sirena Peredo led the way for the attack while senior setter
Karla Soto totaled 49 assists and 14 digs.
Garten's serving was a huge part of the comeback where the freshman went on spurts of SFU unable to return an attack off her service, sending the Saints on huge runs. She ended with five aces as well on the day. Abbey Halstead was up to the challenge on the back row, showing out for 15 digs, while
Tehani Yamashita scooped up 13 digs. Soha added four blocks to go along with her impressive kill total. Despite all of that, one of the more impressive numbers might have been from senior transfer
Ashley Tuiaanna surpassing her entire season total of three kills with four on the night, due to gaining a starting role on the evening with players out due to injury.
The Saints will match up with Western Washington University on Saturday, when they host not only Senior Day, but also the celebration of Veteran's Day and the Feast of Saint Martin's. That match is scheduled to start at 1 PM, but make sure to get their early for all the festivities.
