Galbraith and Louie Notch First Career Double-Doubles in Blowout Win Over Simon Fraser

LACEY, Wash. – It was a double double-double effort from the Saint Martin's women's basketball team (8-13, 4-9 GNAC) on Thursday evening in the 77-57 win over Simon Fraser University (8-10, 6-8 GNAC). Both Anjel Galbraith (11 points, 13 assists) and Chenoa Louie (24 points, 11 rebounds) recorded their first career collegiate double-doubles enroute to the largest conference win of the season for SMU, as well as clinching their first sweep over SFU since the Red Leafs' inaugural season in the GNAC in 2011.

It was a seesaw battle that saw both teams go on runs, but in the end it was the offensive output from Saint Martin's that just completely overwhelmed their Canadian counterparts. By halftime, the Saints had built up a respectable seven-point lead, and by the 6:56 mark of the third quarter, when Lauryn Morris hit a bucket from the key, the lead was up to 12 from SMU. However, in the blink of an eye, just two minutes of game time, the streaky Red Leafs had tied up the game at 50, it was a 12-0 run that left Marcus Pavilion absolutely silent.

But if you're a fighter and you get punched in the mouth, the only thing you really can do, is punch back, and that's exactly what SMU did. First, it was Louie getting to the line and knocking down two free throws. Then, Rian Clear followed up with four straight points on two buckets, before Sarah Lamet added a bucket. Finally, in the dying moments of the third quarter, Galbraith got a steal and found Louie for an easy two. It was a 10-0 run to end the third and the Saints weren't done yet.

Clear was back at it to start the fourth with another bucket on the first possession, while Galbraith rounded out the run at 16-0 by scoring the final four points.

With the game essentially locked up, the attention could turn to double-double watch as both Louie and Galbraith were sniffing the milestone in the fourth. It was that Galbraith four point run that gave it to her since she was already into double figure assist numbers and just needed her point total up to 11. Her 13 assists mark a career-high, even counting her three years at Purdue Northwest. Louie also had a career-high, for her it was her scoring output of 24 points. Louie just needed the rebound numbers and she grabbed her 10th with a board as two minutes were on the clock. Not only was Louie racking up her point totals, she was doing it hyper-efficiently on 10-14 shooting from the field.

Not to be overshadowed by the double-doubles, Clear continued to show her offensive prowess with 17 points on 6-8 shooting, while Sarah Lamet notched 11 points for SMU in the convincing 20-point win.

The stage is set now for a huge matchup on Saturday night with the Saints welcoming No. 8 ranked Western Washington (19-2, 13-1 GNAC) to Marcus Pavilion for Pack the Pav presented by TwinStar. SMU will come in with plenty of momentum for the 5:15 PM tip-off.
