Seniors Celebrate, Galbraith Hits 1,000, SMU Finishes the Season with a Win

LACEY, Wash. – The Saint Martin's women's basketball team (10-16, 6-12 GNAC) finished the season on a high note Saturday evening, when they downed Northwest Nazarene (11-15, 7-11 GNAC) by the narrow score of 75-73. It was senior night, so both Janealle Sutterlict and Emily Nelson were honored pregame, and a milestone was also hit as Anjel Galbraith hit two clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter to give her 1,000 collegiate points scored.

It was an outstanding start from Saint Martin's who had Lauryn Morris lead the way out of the gate. Morris fueled the way for SMU in the first quarter as she notched eight points in the 22-point frame, leading all scorers at that time. In the second, NNU had started to close the gap right before halftime, but it was Keeli Jade Smith that stepped up huge for Saint Martin's when she nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the Saints into the locker room with a nine-point edge.

In the third, Nighthawks post Clare Eubanks became unstoppable enroute to 35 total points on the night. With 35 seconds left before the start of the fourth, it was a Eubanks bucket that tied the game at 57, but Chenoa Louie responded to score the final basket of the frame and have Saint Martin's up two going into the fourth.

It came all the way down to the wire in quarter number four. With two and a half to play, the score was all knotted at 69. Sarah Lamet knocked down two free throws, followed by a clutch layup from Galbraith to get her to 998 career points and the Saints to a four-point lead. After a Eubanks basket with 33 second left, Galbraith ticked the clock all the way down before taking a hit to earn two free throws. Not only did the next two makes get her over 1,000 as a college player, they also made SMU go up two possessions, a nearly unreachable mark with 13 seconds to play. NNU scored a bucket, but after a successful inbounds pass, all the Saints had to do was watch the scoreboard hit zero as they had won their final game of the 2022-2023 season.

Kiana Rios had numerous clutch shots throughout the game, including four threes, to lead all Saints with 17 points. Lamet finished with 14 points and six boards, while Galbraith and Morris each had 10, and Galbraith tacked on seven assists. This was the first SMU against NNU in Lacey since 2015.
