Men's Golf Opens the Spring Season in the Desert

LA QUINTA, Cali. - The men's golf team at Saint Martin's University competed at the Battle in the Desert at PGA West Mountain Course in La Quinta, California, finishing 13th out of 16 teams with a score of 894. Mason Bratcher led the team, shooting 222 and finishing 31st, while Kyle Erwin and Mason Rohleder each shot 224 and finished 39th. Max Turnquist shot 228 and finished 53rd, and Jordan Terada finished 229 and finished 58th.

Head Coach Zach Dietz commented on day one of the tournament, saying, "Final round is tomorrow so we still have an opportunity to make a move as we are within striking distance of some teams that we need to beat." He praised freshman Mason Bratcher's performance and acknowledged the team's challenging journey to the tournament. "All things considered, we have had phases of great golf as a team, but also have had a few bad breaks that killed our momentum," he said.

Wrapping up the tournament, Dietz said, "All things considered, we had phases of great golf as a team, but also a few bad breaks that killed our momentum." He again praised Bratcher's play and expressed optimism for the team's future. "A few tweaks here and there will get us back on track for our next event in a couple days at Poppy Ridge in Livermore," he said.

Next Monday, March 6th, the Saints are in action at the NNU Poppy Ridge Invitational back in California.
