Saint Martin’s Records Books Rewritten at Ralph Vernacchia

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Cassidy Walchak-Sloan and Kainalu Pagente led the way for Saint Martin's as they etched their names in Saints history with two new SMU records

Walchak-Sloan narrowly missed first place in the women's 1500 by three hundredths of a second but her time of 4:27.97 was more than enough for an NCAA DII provisional time, placing her at third in the West Region, second in the GNAC as well as the all-time Saint Martin's record holder, breaking Shannon Porter's time of 4:29.82 set in 2016.
 
Pagente placed fourth in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:28.51 and broke Jasper Heckman's 2016 record time of 9:32.66 to become the new record holder for SMU.
 
Ryan Doidge place fifth in the men's pole vault after clearing 4.27m (14-ft) on this final attempt.
 
In the women's 5000m, Sara Sabra placed second with a time of 18:02.36 and Alisha Saucedo finished fourth with a time of 18:29.53.
 
Alyssa Duncan placed second in women's triple jump with a mark of 11.55m (37-ft, 10.75-in) and fifth in women's long jump with a mark of 5.50m (18-ft, 0.5-in).
 
The combined efforts of Duncan, Maddy Vu, Grace Sills and Margaret Zilla placed third in the women's 4x100m relay with a time of 49.95.
 
In women's shot put, Jocelyn Saribay placed fourth with a mark of 12.17m (39-ft, 11.25-in).
 
Head coach Scott Carter had high praise for his coaching staff and new record holders with, "Coach Lowe has done an incredible job with his group in their development. His coaching paired with hard working and dedicated athletes has been awesome to see. The school records are just a reflection of this process".
 
Next on the slate for Saint Martin's is the GNAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Western Washington on May 11-13th.
