Volleyball Ends Season With Road Loss to Nighthawks

SMU Volleyball was defeated by Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, November 23rd, 3-0.

NAMPA, ID — Saint Martin's Volleyball (6-20, 4-14 GNAC) traveled to Idaho this past weekend to close out their 2024 season against the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks.

The Saints would find themselves in a battle with the Nighthawks with both teams trading scoring runs throughout the first set. Emmy Hansen would get to work early on offense as she would go on to record seven kills while also contributing four digs and two blocks to the defensive effort. As the set continued, Jennifer Soha would find a rhythm and propel the Saints back into the game from a nine-point deficit, tying the score at 23-23. Zoey Crimin would be a crucial player down the stretch as well, landing kills and leading the team with three blocks to keep the momentum on Saint Martin's side. In the end, however, the Nighthawks would pull ahead in extra points to claim the first set, 26-24.

The Saints would find themselves climbing back into the second set in a similar fashion as the first, with the Nighthawks going on an early 9-1 scoring run to begin the set. Emily Garten would record nine kills in total to get the offense back in the match, while Kingsley Mason would connect on five of her own. Mason took a more supplementary role during the match as she also led the team with 18 digs. Even with more Saints getting involved, the Nighthawks would claim the second set, 25-20. In the third set, Saint Martin's would fall behind Northwest Nazarene's pace that they had been able to match for most of the contest. NNU would take advantage and climb to an early 13-5 lead and never look back, taking the set and winning the match, 25-16. Abigail Halstead, Tehani Yamashita, and Tiffany Lam would stand out defensively for the Saints, Aundrea Oxentine would lead the team with 27 assists, and Mia Arambula and Madison Thomas would see playing time to close out their seasons.

The program is excited to prepare for 2025 and will be back in action next school year. Thank you for supporting Saint Martin's Volleyball all season long!
