Volleyball Drops Road Match to Western Washington in Three Sets

SMU Volleyball dropped a road contest to Western Washington on Saturday, November 2nd, 3-0.

BELLINGHAM, WA — Saint Martin's Volleyball (5-16, 3-10 GNAC) made a trip to Bellingham this past Saturday to take on the Western Washington Vikings in GNAC play.

SMU's offensive attack would be set up by Kingsley Mason and Emily Garten, who would contribute multiple kills and service aces at the beginning of the first set. Emmy Hansen would also contribute five kills of her own throughout the match. The Saints would be set up for success by Tiffany Lam, Aundrea Oxentine, and Peyton Griffin who returned recently from injury. The three of them would combine for 16 assists on the evening, with Lam accounting for nine on her own. The offense would find responses early, but an eight-point scoring run would allow the Vikings to pull away in the first set by a score of 25-15.

Jennifer Soha and Zoey Crimin would be major contributors following the break, with their kills and aces at the start of the second set keeping the Saints on pace with the Vikings. A flurry of WWU kills in the middle of the set would widen the gap between them and SMU, and another late scoring run would ultimately result in another 25-15 defeat. The third set would see a lot of the same contributors scoring points for the Saints, with Nadia Gallegos and Lam recording kills to put SMU up 10-9. The Vikings would respond with four straight points of their own, however, and would again pull away from the Saints. SMU would fight back towards the end of the set, but they would drop the third set and match by a score of 25-20. Mason would record a team-high seven kills while Garten, Lam, and Abigail Halstead would record nine digs a piece during the contest.

The Saints will hit the road this week before returning home on November 14th and 16th to close out their season. Get tickets for their final home contests, including Senior Day, here.
