Saints Open Home Schedule with Three Non-Conference Games

LACEY, WA – Saint Martin's softball team has opened their home schedule here in Lacey Washington with a battle on the diamond against the Western Washington Vikings and the Western Oregon Wolves. The result of the weekend was three defeats against GNAC foes, in games that will not go against SMU's conference record.
 

The first game the Saints worked hard to battle against Western Washington in the bottom of the third when #7 Vanessa Smoke doubled to center field. In the end the Saints couldn't secure the win.

The second game against Western Washington, it was a non-scoring game till Western tallied a run in the top of the fourth leaving it 1-0. The Saints up to bat in the bottom of the fourth answered back with a Homer to left field by #19 Olivia Matlock tying the score 1-1. After another inning of being tied 1-1, Western gained the lead making it 2-1 in the top of the sixth. SMU starts the bats up in the bottom of the sixth when # 26 Heather Ebner singled to right field making it on base, the next two Saints to reach on errors were #15 Shelby Lawson and #19 Olivia Matlock loading the bases for SMU. The Saints #4 Kekai Schultz reached on a fielder's choice, while pinch runner Mia Zachary scored on an error due to the cater not being on the plate, this leaves the Saints tied 2-2 with Western Washington. The Saints stayed tied with WWU and went into extra innings, this is when WWU was able to secure the lead.

The final game for the weekend took place Saturday at Saints field against Western Oregon. SMU played strong on the field and kept the game scoreless till WOU managed to take the lead in the top of the fifth. As the game continued SMU was able to battle back in the bottom of the seventh when #25 Haley Agena doubled to center field scoring in #10 Britney Patrick. After a tough battle the Saints weren't able come back and WOU won the game.
