Softball's Historic Season Comes to an End at the NCAA West Regional Tournament

The Saints drop their final game of the 2024 season to Northwest Nazarene 7-3.

NAMPA, ID — The Saints fought hard against conference foe Northwest Nazarene in their third game of the NCAA West Regional Tournament, but their season ultimately came to an end on Friday, May 10.

The Nighthawks came out swinging with RBIs from Moreno and Bumatay and got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but freshman Bridget Johnson would lock it down through the fourth inning with the help of Amanda Peterson. The Saints would respond in the top of the fifth with two runs of their own thanks to RBI-singles from Olivia Matlock and Vanessa Smoke, tying the game up 2-2.

The tie would not last long, as Mulligan would hit a home run that added two more runs in the process on the only hit of the frame for the Nighthawks. NNU kept their momentum through the sixth inning, adding three more runs to the board making it a 7-2 ballgame.

Shelby Lawson would drive in a run in the top of the seventh, but the hopes of a comeback were short-lived as the Nighthawks would end the game, handing the Saints a 7-3 loss. Ashley Goodale and Heather Ebner would each tally two hits on the day with Peterson tallying three strikeouts in one inning pitched.

The coaching staff felt that the team fought hard, and despite being faced with a multitude of injuries and adversity heading into the weekend, the team rallied together to have an impressive showing at the NCAA West Regional.

The Saints return a large portion of their production next season with a lot of underclassmen being key contributors, and with a large incoming class, the future is bright for Saint Martin's Softball. We would like to congratulate head coach Jim Peterson, his staff, and program on an incredible season.
