Box Score BELLINGHAM, WA — On Thursday, May 2, the third-seeded Saint Martin's Saints dropped the opening game of the 2024 GNAC Softball Tournament to the second-seeded Western Washington Vikings by a score of 4-1.

The Vikings got off to a hot start as Barcomb and Andrewjeski both drove in runs in the bottom of the first inning and brought the score to an early 2-0 lead for Western Washington.

Ashley Goodale started the game on a high note by drawing a walk before stealing second base to start the game, but the momentum would be short-lived for the Saints. The Vikings would clamp down defensively and responded right back as Barcomb and Andrewjeski both drove in runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Saint Martin's struggled to dig out of the deficit, as the Vikings put two more runs on the board in the second and fourth innings. Ebner would bring home Goodale to score a run in the seventh inning, but that is all the Saints would be able to put up at the end.

Bridget Johnson pitched five innings and only allowed one run while Shelby Lawson and Heather Ebner, reigning GNAC Freshman of the Year, went two-for-three from the plate.

The Saints will face the loser of Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington in the bottom half of the GNAC Tournament bracket tomorrow, Friday, May 3 at 12:30 PM at Viking Field.
