LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team defeated MSU Billings 3-1 at Marcus Pavilion on Thursday, October 16.
The Saints totaled 43 kills and built an early 2-0 lead, which ended with an emphatic fourth-set to take the match 3-1. The win improved SMU's record to 10-6 overall and 3-5 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
- Saint Martin's hit .367% in the first set, and overcame an early 8-4 deficit to win 25-19. The Saints embarked on a 4-0 run to take a 20-15 lead and later closed the set on another 4-0 run.
- The Saints capitalized on an emphatic 9-0 run early in the second set to build a 12-5 lead. SMU pulled away to win 25-16, winning the final two points off the serve of Tehani Yamashita.
- Despite an early 11-5 lead, Billings bounced back with a 10-1 run to put the Saints behind 15-12. A later 8-0 run by the Yellowjackets put the Saints behind 24-19, before falling 25-19.
- SMU hit .611% in the final set and took a commanding 20-7 lead with a 7-0 run midway through the set. The Saints used the momentum to walk off with a 25-10 victory in the fourth set, winning the match.
