BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory at Western Washington on Saturday, October 3.
THe Saints hit .250 as a team for the match and held a 53-44 advantage in kills, taking victories in the first, third, and fourth sets. The win improved the Saints' record to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
- The Saints built an early lead in the first set pulling ahead 10-7 midway through. Saint Martin's later went on a 4-0 run that saw the team pull ahead 16-10. The Saints held a steady lead and pulled ahead by as much as nine points late in the match, winning the final point on a block by Olivia Bassett and Zoey Crimin to take the first frame 25-18.
- Western Washington responded with a 25-23 victory in the second set to level the match at 1-1. The Vikings jumped out to a 10-5 lead, before a 7-1 run later in the set put Saint Martin's ahead 19-16. Western Washington outscored Saint Martin's 9-4 after this point and won the set 25-23.
- The Saint jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set but later trailed 12-8 midway through. Western Washington pulled ahead by as much as five points, before a major 7-1 run put Saint Martin's ahead 20-19. The Vikings surged ahead 23-20, before the Saints closed out the frame on a 6-1 run to steal the second set 26-24.
- Saint Martin's hit .295 as a team in the fourth set and saw its largest margin of victory, riding an 8-1 run midway through to establish a sizable lead. The Saints controlled the lead for the majority of the set and closed out the match on a 3-0 set to take a 3-1 victory on the road.
