Saints Track & Field sees strong results at PLU Open

TACOMA, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Track & Field program competed admirably at the PLU Open on March 13-14 in Tacoma, Washington.

The Saints placed sixth in the women's team standings with 51 points, while the men's team placed seventh with 30 points. In total, Saint Martin's saw two first-place finishes and 17 top-10 placements.

How It Happened

  • Freshman Janess Blackburn continued her stellar start to the outdoor season, winning the women's discus just one week after setting a program record. She threw 43.24 meters to place first overall, an accomplishment that earned her GNAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
    • Blackburn also placed sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.07 meters.
  • In the men's javelin, freshman Zander Peck placed first overall with a throw of 56.45 meters. His score ranks third among all GNAC javelin throwers so far this season.
  • Ryan Doidge competed well in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.65 meters to place second overall. Doidge currently leads the GNAC season leaderboard for men's pole vault.
  • Tyler Scott placed second in the men's 1,500 meters, clocking in at 4:09.91.
  • In the women's triple jump, Alyssa Duncan placed second with a mark of 10.03 meters.
  • Gage Pedro earned a third-place finish in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 49.55 meters — he ranks fourth among all GNAC athletes in the men's hammer.
  • Pedro also placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 46.61 meters.
  • Kekaihulali Halpern earned a top-10 all-time Saint Martin's mark in the 1,500 meters, placing third with a time of 4:45.94. She ranks sixth in the GNAC in the event.
  • Matt Cooper placed fourth in the men's 800 meters, clocking in at 2:00.58
  • Lorenzo Zimmermann (100 meters), Starlen Wong (100 meters), Vanessa Bledsoe (Shot put/Hammer throw), Ethan Coon (800 meters), and Zack Takeshita (Pole Vault) earned top-10 placements in their events.

The Saints will head back to Tacoma, competing at the Brad Moore Invitational on March 20-21.
