Matt Loes

Coach Loes enters his third year as an assistant softball coach at Saint Martin's University. Loes brings with him 21 years of experience as a head coach. (ten years at South Puget Sound Community College, and 11 at Olympia H.S.). Coach Matt helped get SPSCC to the NWAC Tournament his first year with a 22-4 record in '98, first place in the SW division, earning Coach of The Year honors, with a 29-9 record overall.
 
Coach Matt got the SPSCC Clippers back to the NWAC tourney in 2006 and 2007. His '06 team set a collegiate record with 135 home runs in 51 games, scoring 608 runs, which was a NWAC record, with nine players earning first team NWAC, and three more second team, Loes earned Coach of the Year as well.
 
While at Olympia H.S., Coach Loes helped get the Bears to the post season in eight of 11 seasons, including Narrows League Champions in 2013, '14, and '15. In 2015, his Bears were 27-3 overall, WIAA District Champions, and placed sixth at State. Loes also received Coach of the Year honors in '15.
 
Coach Loes was a veteran fastpitch softball player of 18 seasons out of the Olympia area, receiving numerous all-star awards for hitting, member of a regional championship team, and played in three national tournaments. Coach Loes has also coached youth fastpitch and baseball for several years, and has put on many successfully youth clinics since 1999. Loes has a strong passion for fastpitch softball and is determined to help players to be successful in this sport.
 
Coach Matt and his wife Jena have been married for 33 years and enjoy spending time with their adult children, daughter Eden, and son Jake.
